Coaching for
Attention Deficit Disorder Symptoms (ADD)

Coaching Individuals with ADD and its Symptoms

Nowadays, most of us know someone who has Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or ADD-like symptoms. Jeff Copper realized that he could be an even more effective coach by becoming specially trained to coach adults with ADD and ADD symptoms, and those who are impacted by ADD.

Jeff acknowledges that ADD often feels like a negative label. After all, "deficit" and "disorder" are not empowering words. However, being diagnosed with ADD finally explains the reason for many of the frustrating challenges ADDers face.

Jeff takes a fresh approach to ADD coaching. Specially trained to work with ADD clients, Jeff listens for the verbal and nonverbal clues that bring out an awareness of your unique strengths, allowing you to personalize a solution that truly works for you.

He helps ADDers become aware of what ADD is and how it manifests itself in them. He knows that ADDers are not "broken." On the contrary, they are gifted and unique individuals. Together, you and Jeff uncover the brilliance in your unique brain wiring and excavate the buried clues to define your natural strengths.

In concert, you and Jeff reengineer your patterns by leveraging strengths and minimizing weaknesses. Jeff helps you to develop a personalized way to mitigate daily challenges or frustrations, giving you more time to do what you enjoy.

Why ADD and Its Symptoms Are Becoming Commonplace

Today's 21st century lifestyle and business world are helping to create an ADD society. Fast food, high-tech, instant-on, text messaging, multi-tasking, and to-do lists all lead to information overload. We're all doing a million things at once and trying to do them well.

So it's not surprising that many Americans are exhibiting ADD symptoms, such as impulsivity, inability to stay focused, procrastination, and difficulty managing time and keeping organized.

It is estimated that between 4% and 8% of all adults have ADD. When you consider that each person who has ADD or its symptoms impacts a family, friends, and coworkers, you can see that a significant portion of society is directly affected.

A well-trained coach will partner with those who are affected by ADD to develop systems and strategies that work with each person's unique brain wiring. The ADD coach facilitates a disciplined process of awareness and responsibility that encourages each person affected by ADD to look for realistic options that lead to progress and success.

Look Who Has ADD

David Neeleman, founder of JetBlue, calls his own Attention Deficit Disorder "the gift of hyperfocus." Jeff agrees that ADD is a rare gift. Unfortunately, "deficit" and "disorder" are not empowering words. Too often, people with ADD internalize these words and focus on what they can't do rather than on what they can do.

Jeff acknowledges that those with ADD are different, but he says it is those differences that make people with ADD great. A look at this list of gifted individuals who are said to have had ADD either as an adult or a child quickly calls into question the use of "deficit" or "disorder" as an accurate description.

About ADD

People who are chronically disorganized, impulsive, have attention and focus challenges, and those who are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) are often frustrated. They struggle with everyday demands, feel isolated and just plain different from so-called normal people. That's because society dictates that we fix our weaknesses and disregard the power of our strengths.

Typically, adults with ADD are unaware that they have this condition. They often just feel it's impossible to get organized, to stick to a job, to keep an appointment. The everyday tasks of getting up, getting dressed and ready for the day's work, getting to work on time, and being productive on the job can be major challenges for the ADD adult.

According to recent studies by the National Institutes of Mental Health, treating ADD takes more than medication alone. People who are able to deal most successfully with ADD are those who combine medication with education and therapy, such as coaching.
